What is Blepharoplasty?

(Upper/Lower Eyelid Reduction Surgery)

Eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, is a procedure that improves the appearance of the upper and/or lower eyelids by removing excess skin, fat or tissue. It can help reduce drooping, puffiness and under-eye bags, creating a more refreshed and alert appearance.

Our surgeons specialise in creating natural-looking results that enhance your eyes without changing your unique expression.

Types of Blepharoplasty we do..

Upper Blepharoplasty corrects drooping upper eyelids by removing excess skin and fat. This procedure restores a more youthful and alert appearance, and can also improve vision if the sagging skin obstructs the visual field.

Lower blepharoplasty addresses under-eye bags, puffiness, and wrinkles. This surgery involves removing or repositioning fat and tightening the skin, resulting in a smoother, more youthful contour beneath the eyes. We make incisions along the eyelash line or inside the lower lid (transconjunctival approach), ensuring minimal scarring. For patients with hollowing or volume loss under the eyes, a fat transfer procedure may be recommended to add volume to the tear trough, further enhancing the aesthetics of this region.

Combined Blepharoplasty addresses both upper and lower eyelids in a single procedure. This comprehensive approach rejuvenates the entire eye area for a harmonious and balanced result.

Asian Blepharoplasty, or double eyelid surgery, creates a natural-looking crease in the upper eyelid. It is designed to enhance eye definition while preserving ethnic characteristics.

Male Blepharoplasty focuses on rejuvenating the eye area while maintaining a natural, masculine appearance. The procedure addresses heavy or drooping eyelids, under-eye bags, and puffiness that can make the face look tired or aged. Special care is taken to avoid over-correction, preserving strong brow position and natural eyelid contours. Incisions are discreetly placed within natural creases or inside the lower eyelid to minimize visible scarring. In cases of volume loss or deep under-eye hollows, fat repositioning or fat transfer may be used to restore a refreshed yet masculine look.

Your Consultation & Treatment Journey

4 Easy steps and get your solution

Step 1: Consultation

Your journey begins with an in-person consultation with one of our experienced Consultant Plastic Surgeons. During this appointment, your surgeon will assess your eyelids, discuss your concerns and aesthetic goals, and provide an honest professional opinion on whether upper eyelid surgery is suitable for you.

We only recommend surgery when we are confident it can deliver the results you’re hoping for. If surgery is not the right option, this will be discussed openly during your consultation.

Please note: Online consultations are not offered for upper eyelid surgery due to the detailed assessment and planning required.

Step 2: Personalised Treatment Planning

During your consultation, your surgeon will explain the procedure in detail, discuss expected outcomes, and answer any questions you may have. Together, you'll agree on a personalised treatment plan and, where appropriate, schedule a suitable surgery date.

Step 3: The Procedure

Upper eyelid surgery is performed using carefully placed incisions within the natural crease of the eyelid. This allows excess skin, fat, or tissue to be removed while keeping scars discreet and well concealed.

Your surgeon’s approach focuses on achieving a refreshed, natural appearance while preserving normal eyelid shape and expression.

Step 4: Recovery, Aftercare and Follow-up

Most patients are able to return home the same day following surgery. Some swelling and bruising are normal in the early stages and gradually settle over time. Sutures are typically removed around one week after surgery during a follow-up appointment.

You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions and ongoing support from our team to ensure a smooth recovery and optimal results.

Recovery varies, but most patients experience reduced swelling and bruising within 1 to 2 weeks. Full results can take several months as the nose heals and settles into its final shape.

Most scarring is minimal and well concealed within the natural creases of the eyelids. As healing progresses, scars typically fade significantly and become barely noticeable over time.

Eyelid surgery is generally not painful, as discomfort is usually mild. Most patients describe a feeling of tightness or soreness, which is easily managed with prescribed pain relief and settles within a few days.

The results of eyelid surgery are long-lasting and can remain noticeable for many years. While the natural ageing process continues, most patients enjoy a refreshed, youthful appearance for a long time after the procedure.

Your safety, our Priority

Key considerations before surgery

Treatment Duration

Blepharoplasty is generally performed in 1 to 2 hours. Your surgeon will discuss specific details during your initial consultation, tailoring the approach based on your individual concerns and expected results.

Type of Anaesthesia

Blepharoplasty typically takes between 1 to 2 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure. While the results are long-lasting, the natural ageing process will continue, and some signs of ageing may eventually return, although this is often many years after surgery.

Aftercare Requirements

The procedure can be performed under local anaesthetic with sedation or general anaesthetic, depending on your individual circumstances. This will be discussed during your consultation. In preparation, you may be asked to stop certain medications two weeks prior to surgery, and fasting may be required if general anaesthesia is used.

Back to Work (Recovery)

Swelling and bruising may take 1 to 2 weeks to subside, and you may need to take time off work during this period. You should avoid driving for several days and refrain from strenuous exercise or heavy lifting for up to 2 weeks.

Treatment Cost

The cost of your treatment may depend on a number of factors. The below is a guide to pricing, and may be subject to change.

Starts at £2000
